Kaede (かえで) is a female ninja from Onimusha: Warlords. She fought the demons with Samanosuke Akechi, and searched for his whereabouts after the battle at Gifu Castle. Kaede will throw herself into the heat of battle no matter what the risk to life and limb.

History

Early life

Much of Kaede's past is unknown, but when Samanosuke turned twenty, his uncle, Mitsuhide Akechi, pressured him to see the world. As he traveled over Japan and the Far East, he came across a female ninja named Kaede, who was a member of the Iga ninja clan. Originally, she was sent to assassinate Samanosuke for reasons unknown, but she was moved by his righteous and free way of life, Kaede instead joined him on his travels as his loyal partner and confidante for the next four years. During those years, both developed feelings for each other (as seen in Onimusha Blade Warriors at the Bamboo Forest and Ancient Castle (Flame)).

Onimusha: Warlords

Kaede aids Samanosuke in his quest to save Princess Yuki and Yumemaru from the demon king Fortinbras and defeat the Genma.

Onimusha: Blade Warriors

When Samanosuke disappeared, Kaede spent the next 10 years searching for him until she found him in the Mist Valley. Upon his return (after the events in Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny) Samanosuke and Kaede team up with Jūbei Yagyū and his teammates (for Kaede she has a brief encounter with Fūma Kotarō, Jūbei, and Magoichi Saiga), the two then return to assist his uncle in absolute secrecy. For the next several years Samanosuke and Kaede travel all over Japan, slaying Genma wherever they may find them until some time before the events of Onimusha 3: Demon Siege begins.

Onimusha 3: Demon Siege

It's unknown how or under what circumstances, but Kaede ended up fighting Gargant and was killed. Samanosuke sought Gargant to avenge her death.[1]

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams

Kaede is mentioned by Samanosuke when he says, "We should put an end to this madness...for Kaede."

Onimusha: Soul

Kaede appears in Onimusha: Soul.
